Description Caprock Academy is seeking a 7-12 Dean of Students. Caprock Academy is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Colorado Charter School Institute and utilizes the timeless principles of classically oriented education. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s team, the High School Dean of Students will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of Caprock Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values of character, accountability and academics. The High School Dean of Students will facilitate personal leadership within its student body and faculty, especially with regards to student discipline and teacher supervision. Caprock Academy follows the Core Knowledge© curriculum in grades K–8 This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. The curriculum is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing. The foundation of our academics are rooted in classical education philosophy and pedagogy, following the grammar, logic and rhetoric trivium. The school’s mission is to help all students achieve their highest academic and character potential using proven, accelerated academic programs while providing a safe environment. This mission is achieved through our vision of strengthening the community through the involvement of parents, educators, and community leaders working together to provide an environment that fosters academic excellence and develops strong character in our students. We shape global citizens who set life goals and practice lives of service and virtue. The High School Dean of Students shall report to and is accountable to the Chief Academic Officer. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s team, they will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of Caprock Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values and personal leadership within its student body and faculty, especially with regards to student discipline and teacher supervision. FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Salary Exempt EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full-time WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week PAY RANGE: Starting salary $59,000-$75,000 depending on experience and education REPORTS TO: Head of School Essential Duties: Serve as a part of the leadership team in leading the school community in achieving the mission of the school, with a focus on academic leadership; Assist the Head of School in utilizing student data to evaluate and promote school culture; Promote and model productive communications and teamwork among school staff and parents; Assist Head of School in promoting a school culture focused on student achievement; Communicate with parents about specific student and staff concerns; Assist in interviewing, hiring, and training of teaching staff; Oversee staff in the development and the implementation of student discipline and classroom management plan; Implement student discipline per school rules/policies with students, staff & parents; Serve on different school committees as directed per the Head of School; Assume managerial duties when the Head of School is off campus as directed by the Head of School; Supervise assigned teachers (e.g., mentor, guide, evaluate, and hold accountable); Act as an advocate for students; Assist College Counselor to provide high school students with training on post-secondary awareness through the Naviance program; Supervise and facilitate certain school events as directed by the Head of School (e.g., Flag Raising, Innuendum, etc.); Teach classes as necessary; Act as liaison with the School Resource Officer, outside service providers, and school counselors as needed. Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree (Education or education-related field preferred) Administrator’s license and/or Graduate Degree (preferred) Experience in management and supervision Experience in faculty development Commitment to Classical Education and the Core Knowledge Sequence as well as other aspects of Caprock Academy’s Core Values Experience in implementing, managing, and analyzing data from assessments Experience in working with students of varying ages, skill levels, and circumstances Thorough familiarity with principles of child, early adolescent, and educational psychology Classroom teaching experience A consensus-building, participatory management style Professional and personal integrity Strong team leadership and ability to delegate Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Child and family advocate Excellent organizational skills Willing to implement the school’s rules and policies Ability to work in a diverse environment Experience in or knowledge of Charter schools and other independent educational institutions Knowledge of Core Knowledge Curriculum Required Documentation Application Current Resume Three Letters of Recommendation (including email addresses and phone numbers) Post-Secondary Transcripts (photocopy will suffice) Required Upon Hiring Complete READ Act administrator training Complete Love & Logic program training Other trainings as required Benefits: Enrollment in Colorado’s Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) including employer contributions Health, dental, vision, employer-paid life insurance Earned PTO (complies with Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act) EEO Statement Caprock Academy is an EEO employer.
