Description Job Title: Upper School Special Education & 504 Coordinator/Teacher Target Grades: 6–12 (IEP/504 Management) | 9–12 (Direct Instruction) Reports To: SPED/504 Process Director Job Summary The Upper School Special Education/504 Teacher is responsible for managing the educational success and legal compliance for students with diverse learning needs. This role involves providing direct instructional services to students in grades 9–12 while overseeing the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans for students across the entire secondary spectrum (grades 6–12). Key Responsibilities Direct Instructional Services (Grades 9–12) Provide specialized academic instruction to students in grades 9–12 in accordance with their IEP goals. Implement various teaching strategies, including co-teaching, small group intervention, and one-on-one support. Adapt and modify general education curriculum to ensure accessibility and student progress toward graduation requirements. Case Management & Compliance (Grades 6–12) Serve as the primary Case Manager for students with IEPs in grades 6–12, ensuring all documentation meets state and federal IDEA regulations. Draft, facilitate, and finalize comprehensive IEPs, including transition planning for students age 14 and older. Lead IEP and 504 team meetings, collaborating with parents, general education teachers, and related service providers. 504 Coordination & Testing Accommodations Oversee the 504 process for grades 6–12, including initial eligibility determinations and annual reviews. Coordinate and supervise the delivery of testing accommodations for classroom assessments, NWEA, state testing, and College Board/ACT exams. Maintain accurate records of student accommodations to ensure consistency across all learning environments. Collaboration & Advocacy Consult with classroom teachers regarding accommodations and specific classroom modifications. Monitor student progress through data collection and provide quarterly progress reports to families. Advocate for student needs to ensure an inclusive and equitable school culture. Responsible for entering accommodations for NWEA and providing MAP/EOC accommodations to the District Testing Coordinator. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education (Master’s preferred). Certification: Valid State Teaching License in Special Education (Secondary/6-12). Experience: Proven experience in writing compliant IEPs and managing 504 plans at the secondary level. Skills: Proficiency in Special Education management software; strong knowledge of secondary transition requirements; excellent communication and organizational skills.
