Responsibilities

As a school leaver apprentice here’s what will await you during your four-year training contract:

During your first year and second year you will:

  • Join and gain experience within the Restructuring and Insolvency department.
  • Undertake in-depth financial analysis and document reviews, working closely with managers and partners to support the preparation of reports.
  • Gain experience in assisting with asset recovery, strategy implementation, stakeholder engagement and distributions to creditors.
  • Prepare targeted data for report drafting and correspondence
  • Assist managers and partners by preparing tables, charts, exhibits and appendices for inclusion in reports.
  • Develop an understanding of a variety of financial and accounting disputes in numerous sectors.
  • Produce high quality research / presentation packs for meetings with existing and prospective clients
  • Assist on building financial models and undertaking financial analysis.
  • Take ownership of administration tasks across all aspects of an Insolvency situation along with the associated follow up.
  • Verbal and written communication with creditors, third party agents and intermediaries such as solicitors, property agents, insurers and employment specialists.
  • Collect information from stakeholders and begin to assess the relevance whilst also building rapport with clients.
  • Assist experienced colleagues with the management of their portfolio of cases, including matters of asset realisation, utilising statutory forms and meticulously comply with statutory procedures.
  • Take ownership of drafting sections of a report allocated to you.

During your third and fourth years you will:

  • Be able to complete working drafts of reports allocated to you.
  • Self-review own work, ensuring it is client ready and consistent with the expected house styles and quality.
  • Aid less experienced team members.
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders contributing on specific aspects of the project, such as buyers list and marketing document sections or investigative work carried out.
  • Support project management by ensuring the set timetable is followed by all parties involved (including other financial/legal advisors).
  • Gain experience in financial portfolio managements of cases, cashiering and risk management.
  • Be a point of contact for clients and third parties throughout projects.
  • Gain experience in complex scenarios such as negotiations and strategy implementation.
  • Understand reasons for financial failure and options assessments
  • Prepare documents and research for business development meetings with key intermediaries.
  • Support the team in its business development and marketing activities.
  • Effectively balance multiple projects and responsibilities.
  • Study for and sit the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency exam which is a recognised industry qualification.

By your final year you will have your own portfolio of cases reporting directly to experienced individuals within the team. You will be expected to take responsibility for more complex elements of a project, or for the entirety of a smaller project, ensuring completion delivery within stated, statutory deadlines. This will include actively participating in both team and client meetings and taking responsibility for the budget of the project and active participation in some marketing and business development activities
