A&R Director
The UMC team works four days a week from our award-winning creative campus located in Liberty Village, Toronto, and one day to work virtually.

Reporting to VP A&R, Universal Music Canada is seeking an experienced A&R Director (Artist & Repertoire) to join our A&R team.
How you LEAD:

The ideal A&R candidate will be highly creative and have strong communication skills, and follow-through. They will have forward-thinking ideas be ambitious, creative, positive, and passionate.

  • Identify and sign new artists who stand out as unique and individual
  • Meet and correspond with potential and existing artists to establish trusted relationships
  • Manage & coordinate full A&R lifecycle, from research to recording/production process to product release
  • Work hand in hand with marketing, digital streaming, data, communications, brand partnerships and creative teams to execute artist projects
  • Oversee and be accountable for project expenditures & budgets for your artists’ recording budgets, video, and photoshoots
  • Collaborate with A&R Admin to make sure all invoices for sessions, artist travel, musicians and videos are input and paid out
  • Attend regular A&R and other creative meetings to ensure strong communication with the entire UMC team
  • Maintain a professional, and consistent style of operation; operating with integrity within our company, the creative community and with our artists
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of modern musical, cultural, technological and production trends to keep our artists, their songs, and their production values relevant
  • Maintain strong relationships with managers, producers, songwriters, and other creatives while constantly developing new contacts to expand

What you BRING:

  • Deep knowledge of and passion for Music industry and cultural trends
  • Passion for record consumption data and the ability to scout using various social networking sites
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-starter mentality and drive
  • Requires occasional travel
  • Team player and collaborator who will lead projects while learning with peers in various departments.
  • Experience creating and leading marketing campaigns and strategies for music launches and artist development.
  • Organized and able to prioritize under tight deadlines
  • Creative, innovative, detail-oriented, and resourceful
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • 5+ years’ experience in music industry marketing
  • Label experience preferred
