Overview The Cook is primarily responsible for preparation of entrees, vegetables, soups, cereals, sauces, fried items and other food serviced from the production area. Other responsibilities include proper handling and storage of all food and sanitation of work the work area. Responsibilities Prepare and produce hot food items, supporting ordering, portioning, and assembly to ensure timely service Handle, store, and maintain food safely and cost-effectively in compliance with all safety and sanitation standards Monitor and record food and equipment temperatures, maintaining equipment cleanliness and proper operation Follow recipes and procedures to ensure high-quality, safe, and appealing meals Train team members, maintain cleaning logs, manage food inventory, and help reduce waste Demonstrate teamwork, professionalism, and service excellence in alignment with UnityPoint Health values Qualifications Education: High School Education or Equivalent required. Experience: At least one year of cooking or food service experience and the ability to perform at the cook’s level within six months in this position required. Preferred: Two years of cooking experience in a healthcare or restaurant setting preferred. License(s)/Certification(s): Food Handler Certification • SERVSAFE upon hire. IA/IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire. IA/IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing Care required within 90 days of hire.
