You’ll participate in a paid, six-month intensive Trainee Train Guard program to develop the skills and capabilities you need to become a qualified Train Guard.
You’ll be an ambassador for Sydney Trains, ensuring the thousands of passengers who use our services every day have a great experience by managing safety issues and maintaining smooth, efficient train operations.
Throughout your training, you’ll learn how to carry out all the role responsibilities of a Train Guard. These include providing customer service and physical assistance, ensuring passengers safely board and alight trains, dispatching trains from platforms, maintaining onboard safety and communicating passenger service information via public announcements.
While the path to becoming a Train Guard is dynamic and rewarding, our Trainee program also reflects the work conditions and personal commitment you’ll need to help Sydney Trains run its network 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You’ll need to commit to a set, in-person training schedule at our training facility, sometimes including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
