Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE

The Aboriginal Services Unit (ASU) is specialist team within the Department of Communities and Justice.
Transforming Aboriginal Outcomes division and our vision is to ‘build better pathways to Justice for Aboriginal people.’ We do this by providing support and advocacy for Aboriginal defendants and victims attending courts through our Aboriginal Client and Community Support Officers. We work with executives across Department of Justice to develop a responsive agenda to help reduce Aboriginal overrepresentation in the criminal justice system.
The Aboriginal Client and Community Support Officer provides project support and effective customer service to Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal clients attending court.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Improving relationships between the Aboriginal community and the Court.
  • Providing Coordinated assessments and referrals to Aboriginal people attending court.
  • Providing court support to defendants, victims, and their families.
  • Providing support for a range of Aboriginal targeted projects to Aboriginal clients and communities.
  • Preparing correspondence and reports and maintain filing, record and data systems to ensure they are accurate, accessible and secure.
  • Providing culturally appropriate front line customer service & project delivery.
  • Collating, interpreting, managing and disseminating information to support project development and implementation.
  • Undertaking research to enhance project delivery and outcomes.
  • Promoting projects and services to Aboriginal clients and communities.
