Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE

This role is committed to improving outcomes for the benefit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As the Aboriginal Cultural Engagement Officer at Campbelltown Youth Justice Community Office you will provide advice and support to Youth Justice Caseworkers in the case management of Aboriginal Young People in a culturally responsive manner, ensuring appropriate case plans, cultural support and supervision is implemented. Identify and build collaborative community networks and partnerships to improve the effectiveness of Youth Justice interventions and relationships.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As part of this role, you will

  • Provide advice and guidance to Youth Justice staff on the scope of culturally appropriate interventions for Aboriginal Young People and prepare recommendations for cultural support and interventions for young people being supervised by Youth Justice in the community and custody.
  • Identify and build collaborative community networks and partnerships to improve the effectiveness of community-based interventions by Youth Justice staff.
  • Liaise and build relationships with Aboriginal community groups and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, to promote and support the aims of Youth Justice and support Aboriginal clients.
  • Advise and support Youth Justice Caseworkers with the development of cultural supports and interventions in client case plans.
  • Work alongside Youth Justice Caseworkers to facilitate cultural supports and interventions to clients and record these actions in case notes in client information management systems.
  • Engage Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and other community agencies to provide support services to Youth Justice clients in the community.
  • Work with the Youth Justice Area Manager, their leadership teams, and Aboriginal Practice Officers to ensure culturally appropriate service delivery across the area, including continuation of support if a young person enters custody.
