About the Role
The Dooralong Transformation Centre invites an experienced and passionate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Worker to join our team. This vital role supports the healing journey of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants by embedding cultural strength and connection throughout our services.
You will be a cultural leader within the Centre, increasing pathways to Indigenous Elders and organisations, strengthening cultural capability across teams, and ensuring our services are responsive and respectful to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Your voice will contribute to improving experiences and outcomes for communities across NSW.
This is a full-time permanent position based in Dooralong. Salary is in accordance with SCHADS Level 4.
This position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates only as The Salvation Army considers being an Aboriginal and a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for the position under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

How you will make an impact

• Provide culturally safe support to participants of the Dooralong Transformation Centre.
• Lead cultural discussions and initiatives within management to embed culture in all aspects of service delivery.
• Build strong connections with Indigenous Elders, organisations, and community groups to expand referral networks.
• Facilitate Yarning and Learning Circles, fostering cultural knowledge sharing and wellbeing.
• Collaborate with Centre Managers to enhance cultural competency and improve service delivery at AOD sites statewide.
• Keep informed of current policies, research, and best practices affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and contribute to reporting and continuous improvement efforts.

What you will bring

• You identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
• Experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and service providers.
• Understanding of contemporary issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the ability to influence positive change.
• Strong knowledge of culturally appropriate practice and approaches for complex community needs.
• Relevant qualifications or extensive lived experience with specialised cultural skills.
