POSITION SUMMARY:

New Art seeks a dynamic Exhibitions and Special Projects Coordinator to organize, manage, and implement all exhibitions. This position will have primary responsibility for all New Art Center exhibition programming, including managing the New Art Corridor at the Trio, coordinating the BIPOC Curatorial Program and growing and coordinating our Satellite Gallery Program, managing the public art program, and overseeing the annual New Art Gala art auction. This position works closely with the Executive Director/Development Department to ensure programming aligns with New Art’s mission and strategic fundraising goals.
Coordination with the Director of Development for special events, as well as with the Development and Marketing team for fundraising and promotions is essential. The Exhibitions and Special Projects Coordinator will keep an open line of communication between artists, the public, and the New Art Center staff. They will manage an annual calendar to plan and track exhibition opening and closing dates, events, and development-related programming per fiscal year.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a high-energy, engaging, and proactive problem solver who professionally represents our organization. In addition to exceptional attention to detail, this position requires:

  • A positive, team-oriented attitude, friendly and patient while talking to students, faculty,
  • community members, and vendors
  • Bachelor’s degree in fine arts or equivalent preferred, and familiarity with contemporary curatorial practice
  • 1- 3 years of work experience in a private studio, gallery, non-profit or educational setting working with contemporary art, artists, and curators
  • Understanding of development work and how exhibitions and events play a role in fundraising, and donor cultivation and stewardship
  • Ability to be self-directed and work independently when necessary
  • Excellent written (especially via email) and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to engage new audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities
  • Installation experience is required, curatorial experience is a plus
  • Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe Photoshop/photo editing WordPress website and database skills required
  • Knowledge of graphic design programs
  • The installation will require the use of ladders, as well as lifting, bending, and moving pieces of art, that can sometimes weigh in excess of 50 pounds
  • TIPS certification or ability to become TIPS certified
Responsibilities

GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Work with independent curators, BIPOC Curators, artists, community partner organizations, New Art students, and faculty to create a spectrum of exhibitions and events with artists ranging from students and community members to those with national and international reputations
  • Work as a team member with New Art faculty and staff to develop, promote, and implement dynamic programs for New Art students and the public including but not limited to: opening and closing receptions, artist talks, public workshops, discussions, lectures, demonstrations, and other interactive engagements with the experience of art
  • Work with artists and the Marketing and Communications Manager to create informative signage and text for press releases, and capture photos and videos as needed.
  • Document exhibition program and maintain archives
