Job Description:
Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse, culturally competent staff at all levels of the organization who reflect the demographics of our students. We also believe in providing an ongoing investment in our faculty and staff to deepen their skills and competencies to serve the full range of our student population.
Reynolds is seeking an Academic Advisor (G3) to join our student success team.
The Academic Advisor will work in both in-person and virtual settings to support prospective and currently enrolled students in identifying academic and workforce pathways that align with their interests, strengths, and career goals. This role is critical in guiding students through academic planning while also helping them address non-academic barriers that may impact their ability to succeed.
This position serves a diverse student population that reflects the rich cultural landscape of Virginia, with more than 40% of Reynolds students identifying as racially or ethnically diverse.

The role includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

  • Provide academic and career advising to prospective and current students across academic and workforce programs
  • Guide students in developing educational plans that align with career goals and program requirements
  • Identify and address non-academic barriers that may impact student success
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student interactions, outreach efforts, and progress
  • Refer students to appropriate college and community-based support services
  • Implement academic interventions and follow up on students at risk of not meeting academic goals
  • Leverage advising tools and student information systems to deliver responsive, data-informed support
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in advising
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and equity in alignment with Reynolds’ Flight Path initiatives
  • Support college-wide retention and completion efforts by collaborating with faculty, staff, and student services teams

Success in this role requires strong knowledge of the barriers that can impact educational attainment, along with a deep commitment to helping students overcome those challenges and reach their goals.
