Position Summary Working under the guidance of the Director of Pre-Professional Health Advising (PPHA), the Advisor 1 provides comprehensive advising and high-level support to current students and alumni pursuing admission to medical and other professional health programs, including Dental, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Optometry, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Podiatry, and Veterinary Medicine. This role includes reviewing ePortfolio documents, offering personal statement feedback, conducting mock interviews, and scheduling Pre-Health Evaluation Committee interviews to strengthen students’ applications. The Advisor 1 also develops, coordinates, and implements workshops and events for current and prospective students, creates engaging presentations, visuals, and social media content, and conducts data collection and analysis to assess placement rates and improve services. Additionally, the position supports onboarding of first-year students, guides them through professional school preparation, reviews academic timelines, communicates prerequisite requirements, and provides targeted opportunities to enhance professional development. Job Details *This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department. Required Education and Experience *Bachelor's degree *At least three (3) years’ experience in a student facing role within an academic or higher education setting. *An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred Education and Experience *Master’s Degree. *Demonstrated experience with public speaking in both large and small groups. *Experience in an academic support or academic advising unit preferred. Shares current expertise with others. *Strong analytical skills to complement data *Excellent project management skills. Essential Duties The Advisor I: *Provides access to information and resources to support students’ academic, career, and personal goals. *Acts as an advocate and referral source, delivering consistent outreach and follow-up services. *Organizes, maintains, and prepares materials related to health professions applications, including managing data, conducting analysis, and presenting findings effectively. *Creates and delivers engaging presentations, visuals, and social media content to connect with students and communicate information effectively. *Develops and facilitates workshops on professional school exploration, application processes, and personal statement writing. *Creates and maintains resources for professional school admissions and interview preparation, and promotes these resources to students. *Represents the office at internal and external meetings and events, actively participating in professional advising associations, including the National Association for Advisors in the Health Professions. *Demonstrates proficiency with technology, including multiple information systems, Excel, data analysis tools, and social media platforms. *Gathers, interprets, and presents numerical and written information clearly, using insights to improve processes. *Generates innovative approaches and suggestions to enhance both personal work and unit-wide initiatives.
