The Department of Critical Care Medicine in conjunction with the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invite applications for a Contingent Term appointment as an Academic Clinician Scientist at the Assistant Professor level, with interest and research expertise in Critical Care Medicine related to one or more of the areas of precision medicine, bioinformatics, inflammation and immunity.
The position is designed to recruit an independent researcher and collaborative Clinician Scientist to complement the Department of Critical Care Medicine¿s successful and growing teams of researchers. The successful candidate will have 50% of their time protected for research with an opportunity to increase protected time with successful programs of research. Start-up funds will be available to support a qualified candidate commensurate with the nature of the candidate¿s research program. The position provides full membership within the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases, including extensive opportunity for collaboration with Snyder researchers and access to Snyder core facilities. Alberta Health Services has a well-established collaborative network of critical care research, fostering collaboration between researchers, clinicians and decision-makers across the Province and long-standing comprehensive critical care clinical information systems and data warehouses with data assets spanning over 20 years to facilitate research initiatives. These information systems serve all adult and pediatric intensive care units in the Province and are substantial research assets for the successful candidate.
The University of Calgary¿s strategic research plan includes a health focus while the Cumming School of Medicine¿s strategic plan includes a priority of enabling world class discovery science, translational and health outcomes. The Department has active multi-disciplinary and inter-professional clinical and health services research groups with established research infrastructure and opportunities for supervision of clinical trainees and graduate students, collaboration and mentorship. Alberta Health Services operates five teaching hospitals in the city of Calgary. The Calgary Zone of Alberta Health Services serves approximately 2 million residents of Southern Alberta, Southeastern British Columbia and Southwestern Saskatchewan. The Department provides academic and clinical services in an integrated manner across all of the hospital sites, currently operating 96 ICU beds in the City of Calgary.
Qualifications include an MD degree, adult critical care medicine specialty training with RCPSC certification in critical care medicine, a minimum of two years of formal research training, and a record of academic research achievements. Demonstrable interest and expertise in one or more of the areas of precision medicine, bioinformatics, inflammation and immunity is a requirement. The selected candidate will be expected to compete for external funding award including Tri-Council operating grants. Clinical care duties within the department¿s ICU¿s is a requirement. The Clinician Scientist must be eligible for full medical licensure in the Province of Alberta.
