SKILLS/EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Special Education, Part 1 AQ preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to support curriculum concepts for Ontario high school science curriculum, Grade 9 through Grade 12 university preparatory, and strong ability to meet the learning needs of individual students
  • Priority for Biology and Chemistry knowledge foundation. Ability to teach/support physics curriculum is a strong asset
  • Additional qualifications for and/or experience with teaching adolescents with identified learning differences in a small group setting.
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Evening Academic Science Coach is a key member of our collaborative Evening Support Team, bringing science expertise to our comprehensive student support services. Working alongside other team members two evenings per week, this role provides specialized mathematics support through individual and small group academic coaching sessions for Lakefield College School students. The position focuses on supporting students with learning differences and those seeking additional science guidance, while actively collaborating with fellow Evening Support Team members to ensure comprehensive academic support across subjects. The ideal candidate will contribute to our team-based approach, sharing insights with colleagues while maintaining flexibility to address varying student needs as they arise.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Provide scientific expertise as part of the Evening Support Team, delivering twice-weekly coaching sessions for individuals and small groups across all grade levels
  • Provide specialized curriculum support for all high school science courses while coordinating with other team members to ensure holistic student support
  • Work within the Evening Support Team to integrate science support with general study skills and learning strategies
  • Collaborate with team members to develop comprehensive support strategies for students facing science-based challenges, including mental blocks and skills gaps
  • Research and share innovative teaching methods and strategies with the Evening Support Team to enhance support for students with learning differences
  • Maintain detailed documentation of coaching sessions and student progress, sharing insights with advisors, Guidance, and Learning staff through our collaborative reporting system
  • Actively participate in Learning/Evening Support Team meetings and retreats, contributing to team discussions and professional development
  • Support fellow team members by sharing science-based strategies that can be integrated into their coaching sessions
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of Evening Support Team practices and protocols
