Job Details Job Location: Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe - Kingston, WA Position Type: Full Time - 30 - 40 hrs/week Education Level: 2 Year Degree - Required Salary Range: $20.95 - $24.09 Hourly Travel Percentage: Road Warrior Description The Academic Coach, under the direction of the Career and Education Program manager is responsible for identifying students’ talents and areas in need of improvement; helping them develop skills to move forward academically toward their future endeavors. Within the schools, help support and maintain the academic, social and cultural climate for S’Klallam students. The Academic Coach is responsible for becoming a strong team member to assure continuity of the program. The Academic Coach works collaboratively with school district staff, Career and Education Program Manager and Education Director. Duties Include: Connecting students with other resources, as needed. Assist with the delivery of instrucational and non-instructional services for S’Klallam students. Demonstrate excellent ability to build rapport with students as well as possessing the ability to work in teams or independently as needed. Promote and coordinate S’Klallam cultural activities. Identify, monitor and report student performance in the areas of academic achievement, attendance and behavior and input into the tribal database. Submit written monthly reports to the Education Program Manager. Schedule S’Klallam students for individual or small group instruction. Ability to offer feedback on progress to students, parents and teachers when appropriate. Coordinate/Implement awards program. Maintain absolute confidentiality of all information collected, reported on and filed, including student records. Home visits with families/students when needed. Be available for after school mentoring. Attend regular staff meetings. Participate in the NKSD Inter-Tribal Parent Education Committee (ITPEC) meetings and other meetings as requested by the Career and Education Program Manager or Education Director. Support the link between S’Klallam Families, NKSD staff and administration, and S’Klallam Tribal representatives and services. Assist with Parent/Teacher Conferences, Attend 504/IEP Meetings (when requested); Attend MTSS meetings at assigned school Plan/Coordinate Summer School Work effectively under pressure Be dependable, including good habits in attendance and punctuality. Be flexible and to adapt to changes in plans or activities on short notice. Reporting is mandatory for tribal employees and contractors with the tribe who perform services to the community in the areas of education, health and human services, law enforcement and members of the clergy. Qualifications: Education/Experience: Associates Degree required or the ability to obtain one in 2 years required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Licensing/Certification: Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License. Knowledge of childhood academic, social and physical development First aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of hire. Must be able to pass a state background check upon hire. Ability to maintain confidentiality; a breach of confidentiality is grounds for immediate dismissal. Communicate clearly and concisely, with courtesy and respect. Ability to establish positive relationships with and instruct school-aged youth. Strong Math, Science, English and Social Studies skills. Ability to organize and coordinate activities with the assistance of classroom teacher. Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and work-habits. Ability to take initiative and assist as needed. Travel Requirements: Local, statewide and out of state travel may be required.
