EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

  • PhD (or equivalent) or Masters in Arts Therapy, Counselling, Psychotherapy, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in course coordination, academic management, and teaching development.
  • Proven leadership skills, including staff management and fostering a positive culture.
  • Knowledge of contemporary teaching, learning, and assessment principles.
  • Experience in course review and design to improve student outcomes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, including the Higher Education Standards Framework (2021).
  • IT literate, especially in Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY):

  • PhD in Counselling preferred.
  • Level 4 membership (or eligibility) with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly motivated Academic Course Coordinator to join our team and take responsibility for the delivery of courses in Arts Therapy or Counselling and Psychotherapy. This key role will involve overseeing the academic management of your course, including the coordination of teaching and assessment, academic staff management, student support, and continuous course improvement. As the Academic Course Coordinator, you will work closely with academic staff, students, and other departments to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning and help guide students toward successful academic outcomes.
This position will be based at our Sydney campus and involves a full-time teaching load of 6 subjects per year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic Delivery:

  • Oversee course delivery, ensuring consistency in teaching, learning, and assessment across all modes.
  • Ensure teaching resources are ready before course start and manage academic staff allocation.
  • Conduct teaching, assessments, and student consultations for your subjects.
  • Develop industry-relevant teaching strategies and conduct course reviews to improve quality.
  • Monitor student performance and provide support for at-risk students.

Academic Management:

  • Support the Head of School in maintaining compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Contribute to academic governance through committee participation and support staff recruitment and onboarding.
  • Handle academic queries, complaints, and contribute to student recruitment and orientation.

Course Development & Review:

  • Participate in the development, review, and accreditation of courses.
  • Ensure learning resources meet student needs and are up to date.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and develop your academic team, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Provide mentorship, feedback, and support the staff evaluation process.

Industry Engagement:

  • Maintain industry links to ensure course relevance and facilitate student placements for practicum or work experience.
