The Academic Director plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience for students at the Sydney and Melbourne campuses. The role is a key leadership role responsible for academic delivery, management, scholarly activity, quality of learning and teaching associated with the Charles Sturt University programs delivered at the Sydney and Melbourne Campuses.
The primary objective of this position is for the successful candidate to take full accountability of the role and to drive the right outcomes whilst ensuring the quality and relevance of the courses offered at Sydney and Melbourne, while fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and innovative educational environment. As we are growing this role requires more of a hands-on approach and a high level of energy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD qualified in a discipline relevant to one of those offered (or could be offered in the future) at the Charles Sturt Sydney | Melbourne together with extensive experience in the administration and management of an academic unit.
  • Demonstrated excellence in academic leadership and management within a higher education environment, including an ability to build strong, sustainable teams, manage resources within a budget and coordinate a broad range of academic functions.
  • Substantial experience in teaching and learning, including scholarly and practical approaches to the management and evaluation of learning and teaching effectiveness
  • Demonstrated experience in building a culture that supports scholarly, innovative and flexible approaches to teaching and facilitation of learning
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire students and staff
  • Proven success in working collaboratively and an ability to build highly productive relationships across a range of internal and external partners
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading staff in addressing teaching and learning issues experienced by staff
Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of dedicated teaching staff, guide students, and play a pivotal role in the growth and success of the Sydney and Melbourne campuses of Charles Sturt University
  • Ensure the delivery of all Charles Sturt Sydney and Melbourne programs are of high standard and compliant with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor teaching staff to use student-centred teaching and learning approaches using presentations, group activities, tutorials, and assessments
  • Build a scholarly and innovative academic culture by championing initiatives that support continuous professional growth, promote reflective practice, and encourage innovation in teaching and curriculum development.
  • Expand work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities by engaging with industry partners and faculty to embed meaningful, career-relevant experiences into the curriculum.
  • Drive student success and retention by working collaboratively with Student Services to design proactive engagement strategies, targeted learning support interventions, and inclusive academic policies
