JOB SUMMARY

To meet these goals, we need the assistance of a 0.75-time Administrative Coordinator/Project Coordinator, with the working title of Academic Project & Events Coordinator. Reporting to the director of WISE RP, this position will manage a range of important projects aimed at supporting and celebrating gender minoritized individuals in STEM at U-M. The Academic Project & Events Coordinator portfolio includes:

  • Logistics & Implementation of large-scale co-curricular and curricular programs
  • Management of WISE RP’s future service learning curricular programs and piloting newlearning models
  • Student Academic and Social Support
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Campus Partnerships & Collaborations
  • Project Assessment & Evaluation

This position is an in-person/hybrid position that requires some evenings and weekend work. Some travel may be required. The position is 30 hours/week, and is a term-limited appointment for three years with the possibility of renewal contingent on your satisfactory performance and conduct, the availability of work, and continued funding.

WHO WE ARE

The Women in Science and Engineering Residence Program (WISE RP) is guided by our program mission and core tenets to ensure gender-minoritized students pursuing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related degrees are successful and supported. The WISE RP aims to:

  • Create engaging cultural, academic, and educational experiences for students
  • Bolster students’ STEM self-efficacy
  • Celebrate and empower students’ diverse identities within and beyond STEM
  • Assist students in promoting their leadership capacities to lead in a global society

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Bachelor’s degree OR an equivalent combination of job and educational experiences
  • At least 2+ years of experience in event planning in an educational context OR At least 2+ years of experience in project management
  • Experience supporting units with an academic focus and targeted student populations
  • Experience managing different kinds of projects simultaneously (e.g. managing the launch of new programs, managing external-facing event series, developing a set of new workflows for internal and external processes)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Experience planning events on the U-M Ann Arbor campus
  • Experience coordinating service learning projects/study abroad programs
  • Demonstrated experience with creating more equitable workplaces or learning environments
  • Demonstrated experience with supporting and enhancing the learning experiences of minoritized individuals in STEM
Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES*

Project Management (45%)

  • Manage the timelines, resource allocation, and procedures for multiple overlapping projects in the WISE RP portfolio. Projects you manage may be led by the Program Director, Associate Director, or in partnership with other campus units
  • Manage logistics, implementation, and budget proposals for the unit’s large-scale programs, including but not limited to:
  • Co-curricular programs:
  • WISE Nights, Alumni Weekend, STEM excursions
  • Curricular programs:
  • Service-learning partnerships, Summer Scholars
  • Interface with the WISE RP Administrative Assistant and the project leads; ensure that events are designed to meet the goals according to the program’s tenets and mission
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and management of unit-level merit & need-based scholarship processes

Marketing & Communications (20%)

  • Community engagement, access, and elevating the voices of our community members are core values. We accomplish this by overseeing timely, STEM-focused and community-empowered content for WISE RP external communication outlets. Currently, the WISE RP website, newsletter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Collaborate on marketing and communication outreach to promote unit programs
  • Help with design, management, and execution of unit brand (internal/external)
  • Assist with stewardship management and donor communications via Giving Blue Day and other initiatives.

Student Support (15%)

  • Manage application, selection, and onboarding of WISE RP Summer Scholar participants
  • When needed, conduct student one-on-ones and focus groups to assist in navigating various academic and personal concerns
  • Create a welcoming environment to engage with community members in formal and informal capacities

Student Staff Management (10%)

  • On-board, set goals, and evaluate the performance of the WISE RP Program Assistant: Web and Communications Student Staff
  • This role will help manage Program Assistants as they curate content for marketing and communication platforms for the unit.
  • Potential to supervise and manage other WISE RP student staff, such as Study Group Leaders and Affinity Groups

Collaborations & Partnerships (5%)

  • Help create programs and outreach facilitated by WISE RP and its partners. Such partnerships include (but are not limited to) work with Women In Science and Engineering (WISE), College of Engineering, Center for the Education of Women (CEW+), Center for Global and Intercultural Study (CGIS), Ginsberg Center, and student organizations.
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to actualize current and future mission-driven priorities of WISE RP. Help implement programs facilitated by student organization partners who want to engage with the WISE RP community (e.g., Society of Women Engineers (SWE))

Assessment, Evaluation, & Reports (5%)

  • Lead program review and evaluation, which are important to the success of any WISE RP program and the implementation of future projects
  • Collaboratively produce reports, including the WISE RP annual report, program review, assessment, and evaluation of curricular and co-curricular programs implemented
