Description

The University of Maryland Baltimore Francis King Carey School of Law is seeking an Academic Services Coordinator. Reporting to the Academic Program Support Manager, the Academic Services Coordinator provides administrative and technical support to law faculty, including assisting in preparing course materials and exams, managing Blackboard courses, and providing general administrative assistance. The incumbent may also assist in preparing legal books, articles, presentations, and other scholarly works.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Prior related administrative experience in which program coordination is the primary responsibility
Other: Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Skill in working with Microsoft Office 365 applications to produce documents and maintain information. Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
    • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail. • Excellent proofreading, attention to detail, and document formatting skills.

• Professional demeanor and customer service oriented. • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative and positive working relationships.

  • Skill in using standard office equipment, composing various correspondence, managing filing systems, gathering and summarizing information, maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive matters with discretion and tact, and interacting with faculty, students and staff courteously and efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/ QUALITIES:

• Experience with learning applications such as Blackboard. • Strong customer-service orientation.

  • Familiarity with video conferencing platforms such as Zoom.

• Strong organizations skills. • Conscientious (motivated to ensure things are complete and done in a timely manner)

  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team (flexible and positive attitude).
  • Familiarity with legal terminology.

HIRING RANGE: $52,000 - $60,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)

Responsibilities
  • Administratively supports multiple law school faculty with requests including Blackboard Ultra course assistance, drafting seating charts, assembling and editing syllabi, preparing materials and presentations, and coordinating arrangements for class visitors.
  • Coordinates travel arrangements and processes related to reimbursements for assigned faculty.
  • Drafts and formats documents, including a large number of recommendation letters for students applying for judicial clerkships and other employment opportunities.
  • Provides general clerical support, including copying, formatting, scanning, email assistance, shipping/mailing, etc.
  • Provides technical advice, problem-solving assistance, and answers to questions. Elevates issues to the Academic Program Support Manager when unable to respond.
  • Organizes and schedules meetings, appointments, and makeup classes.
  • Communicates with faculty, students, and external stakeholders to provide information about policies and resources as needed.
  • Serves as a proctor during examinations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
