ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation creates knowledge, mobilizes people, and takes action to improve education. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a related field and two (2) years or more of the following: advising or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in Academic Success Coordinator; Or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills, adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans.
  • Skill in problem solving, ability to take initiative and set priorities, while being flexible. Ability to develop action plans to meet goals; establishes milestones and timetables. Documents activities and tracks progress.
  • Ability to prepare detailed documents, proposals, reports, and/or related materials.
  • Ability to provide analysis of data for identification of trends.
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviors and abilities.
  • Knowledge of academic programs, colleges, and departments university-wide.
  • Ability to rapidly adapt and effectively utilize new technology, practices, policies and methods
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
  • Skill in designing presentation materials and giving oral presentations in group settings.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, DARS, Salesforce and case management best practices.
  • Experience in use of internet -based research tools and Microsoft Office computer applications, video conference software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively monitor immersion and online student academic performance, addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues and collaborates closely with students. Identifies all academic options including, but not limited to: degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, success coaches, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides counsel to students in selection of options best suited to the student’s goals, interests, and skills.
  • Provides individual and group academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success. Works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to support academic success.
  • Assist students in the decision-making process and course scheduling experience.
  • Oversees the advising team and collaborates across various degree programs to enhance student retention and success. This includes establishing and meeting team goals, as well as ability to manage team projects are completed within the deadline.
  • Provides performance assessment of peers and/or student employees to leadership.
  • Support Academic Success Advisors in the successful execution of their duties, including hiring, training and/or mentoring.
  • Provides leadership in coordinating academic success initiatives. Coordinates training and development related to projects and programs for staff. May train and support staff and student employees in learning/growing with technology.
  • Assists in the development and interpretation of university and college policies, ensuring the team is well-informed and that policies are effectively implemented within the team.
  • Act as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success; attends and/or presents at orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops.
  • Manages escalated issues from both internal and external constituencies. Demonstrates mastery of conflict resolution principles and techniques.
  • Escalates/redirects urgent or conflicting requests after attempting resolution. Seeks to resolve complex issues and takes the lead on projects built around student support.
  • Ability to work both independently or within a complex structured team. Takes initiative and sets priorities with minimal information while being flexible. Utilizes experience, policies, and own judgment to make decisions regarding options and next steps for complex student situations.
  • Utilizes and demonstrates fluency with student development theory and retention focused strategies.
  • Prepares detailed documents, proposals, reports, and provides analysis of data for identification of trends.
  • Adeptly uses multiple systems at the same time (such as student record databases, degree progress tools, appointment systems).
  • Actively shares and responds to feedback and insight regarding technology systems and their daily use, demonstrating leadership to staff and student employees. Maintains an openness to new tools utilized across the University to aid in student success and service excellence. Leads staff in implementing new tools.
  • Applies collaborative approaches and strategies to devise solutions for student requests and clearly develops and conveys the nuances of outcomes verbally and in writing.
  • Navigates complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans, establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships.
  • Works as a university agent in ensuring ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and successful progress to completion, provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services, and utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success.
  • Possesses a clear understanding of the unit goals of the college and/or departmental processes and expectations. Drives unit initiatives with holistic understanding of the unit goals.
  • Collaborates with leadership to provide solutions associated with specific programs or projects.
  • Prepares complex analysis of trends and metrics to assist in unit decisions.
  • Acts as college/department liaison to internal and external constituents on issues related to academic success.
