SUMMARY

UD is currently seeking an Academic Success Specialist to provide support for first-generation student programming, especially the College Citizens program, the Constantin Scholars program, and UD’s First Gen Small Groups initiatives. This position offers quality academic advising and targeted support services to students. The Academic Success Specialist reports to applicable state and federal agencies in coordination with other institutional offices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s degree.
· Three years experience in student services or related experience.
· Experience or knowledge of liberal arts undergraduate education preferred.
· Experience with first generation student success advising or underrepresented student populations highly valued.

• Primary contact for students, schools, and partners interested in UD’s College Citizens Bridge Program. Establishes and maintains relationships with a variety of DFW area school administrators and teachers to promote and recruit for the College Citizens summer bridge program. This includes visiting area schools, putting together and distributing application materials, and contacting prospective students about their interest.
• Report to and follows guidance of the Directors of the College Citizens bridge program as they outline the steps needed in order to execute the details of the College Citizens bridge program. This includes hiring undergraduate peer mentors for the summer bridge program, coordinating evening and weekend activities, ensuring all necessary forms are completed and collected, keeping a careful record of receipts from all aspects of the College Citizens program to help ensure the program is run within allocated budget, and maintaining communication between students, school counselors, parents, and the College Citizens Directors.
• Maintain contact with students, their parents, and school contacts before and after the College Citizens bridge program to continue to support students in their preparation for college and to coordinate, plan, and execute the year-long civic engagement project students will complete following the summer bridge program.
• Act as a secondary support to the Constantin Scholars Program to ensuresuccess in its design and implementation.
• Oversee Tutoring in the humanities.
• Support the Director of Summer Programs in the development and implementation of parallel summer programs at UD.
• Contribute to the needs of the proctoring center, especially during midterms and final exams.
• Provide support and intervention to students demonstrating academic or other difficulties that threaten success at UD. Collaborate with and defers to faculty advisors when advising students about academic requirements and possible selection of courses. Refers students to the appropriate specialized staff for comprehensive counseling, financial assistance, study abroad, and other services. Assist with communication to students regarding registration and academic probation, as well as students on academic waiting lists for the Rome program. Assist students with career planning.
• Participate in the development, implementation, review, presentation, and revision of student orientations, student development programs, and student retention programs.
• Collaborate with faculty and department chairs in the development of student success programming.
• Design and administer surveys (including but not limited to the College Student Inventory survey), questionnaires, and other data-collection instruments to gather institutional student data. Collects student data from institutional departments and systems for analysis. Analyzes data and interprets results to inform institutional strategies/initiatives.
• Meet with students to reflect on results of College Student Inventory Survey and coordinates efforts to share relevant insights from data with appropriate offices on campus.
• Coordinate Early Alert and Midterm Alert system in collaboration with the Director of Academic Success and the Associate Dean of Constantin College. Contacts students who have been reported through the Early Alert System, Midterm Alert System, CARE Team meetings, Financial Aid reports, or for other reasons deemed appropriate by the Director of Academic Success. Meets regularly with students and keep detailed records of those meetings.
• Work with the Associate Dean of Constantin College and Director of Academic Success to register incoming students for classes each Fall semester.
• Work in databases such as Slate and Bannerweb to prepare for student meetings.
• Complete EPAFs for new student workers.
• Supervise First Gen Small Group Peer mentors and coordinates their work as student leaders on campus.
• Other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Academic Success department.
