ACADEMIC SUPPORT SPECIALIST (STEM) (TERM PART-TIME)

SALARY: $56,607 - $79,848 per annum
POSITION LOCATION: Exchange District Campus (Winnipeg, MB)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certificate in Adult Education (equivalent, in progress or completed)
  • Specialized knowledge in one or more areas: electrical/electronic engineering, College level mathematics, calculus, physics
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in the instruction of learning strategies and remedial programming in a college environment is required
  • Experience in the delivery of instruction or tutorial support to large groups in a post-secondary environment
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, including MS Teams, and the ability to adapt to new technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, including mentoring students and staff
  • Organized with a high attention to detail to ensure student records and reports are accurate, up to date
  • Commitment to ensuring services are efficient and responsive to the needs of the student
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (CTESL)
  • Bachelor of Education
  • Familiarity with Brightspace or other learning management software
  • Familiarity with the structure and expectations of RRC Polytech programs
Responsibilities

The Academic Support Specialist (STEM - Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) receives direction from the Tutoring Supervisor and reports to the Manager, Academic Success Centre for special projects. The Academic Support Specialist (STEM) provides individual and group tutoring in the areas of Electrical / Electronic engineering technology. The incumbent must have advanced training in electrical engineering technology, and experience tutoring or teaching in the areas of mathematics, calculus, statistics, and physics, at the college level.
This role requires proficiency with learning technologies and the ability to deliver tutoring, and workshops supports in-person, online and in hybrid formats. In addition to direct student support, the Academic Support Specialist (STEM) conducts research and leads the development of workshop programming for students with diverse needs or learning barriers. The Academic Support Specialist (STEM) is also responsible for the selection and creation of supplementary resources to support ASC programming and may require collaboration with faculty in a wide array of programs to create specialized services for their program areas. The incumbent will also contribute to and lead projects and ASC programming initiatives at various departmental and college wide events and require project management skills.
