POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Section 504/Title IX Coordinator and Community Resource Specialist at Galen College of Nursing, you will provide support to students that encompass community resources and accommodations to support equal access to education in nursing programs. They will coordinate the provisions of accommodations for applicants and students related to disability and pregnancy or related conditions. This position will collaborate with Galen’s faculty, administration, and staff in addressing the needs of a student population with diverse academic, cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Minimum qualification of a master’s degree with a minimum of two (2) to three (3) year’s successful experience in a social services, counseling, special education or related field. Experience in the position at Galen or other academic programs may be substituted in lieu of a master’s degree.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a higher education setting.
  • Skills & Special Qualifications: Minimum of two years’ experience in a higher education setting; ability to professionally represent the College when meeting with students, parents, legal counsel, staff, and faculty; ability to provide training and in-services to campus staff and faculty on a regular basis; ability to maintain fairness and impartiality at all times; and general investigation experience is desired.
  • Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Must be able to sit at a desk for up to eight (8) hours.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as contact person for applicants and students requesting accommodations under Section 504 of the ADA or Title IX.
  • Advises applicants and students on the accommodations process, required documentation, and responsibilities of students seeking accommodations.
  • Maintain records of student accommodation needs in the student information system.
  • Should accommodations be awarded, ensure that information regarding accommodations is provided to the appropriate staff to ensure accommodations are provided appropriately.
  • Coordinate the provision of accommodations in a fair and equal manner.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to facilitate accommodation of student needs.
  • Assist Compliance and Regulatory Affairs in internal investigations for ADA or Title IX-related grievances.
  • Ensure that attempts to mediate and resolve complaints are made prior to formal grievance stage.
  • Identify, implement, and evaluate non-academic resources and services; including community resources for students across the college (W.I.C., housing, counseling, etc.)
  • Collaborate with the College Leadership, other departments, and faculty to introduce, recommend, and encourage the use of community resource services.
  • Provide education to new and current faculty and staff about community resources, referral processes, and strategies to obtain resources for students
  • Meet with students to provide community resource information and support as they progress through the nursing program.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments to determine students’ strengths, weaknesses, interests, and needs.
  • Provide education, counseling, emotional support, crisis intervention, grief counseling, and resources to students with personal and psychological issues that affect their performance, behavior, and socialization in school.
  • Refer students to other support services and mental health professionals as needed.
