ABOUT US

The Department of Health and Wellness offers opportunities to grow and advance in a dynamic sector that touches the lives of all Nova Scotians. Along with our partners, including Nova Scotia Health and the IWK Health Centre, we are committed to continually improving our health care system. With a focus on collaborative primary health care, continuing care, improved supports for mental health and addictions, digital health, capital infrastructure, and more, the department is thinking differently about how to plan, fund, legislate and monitor to improve access and service delivery. To do this, we need leaders at all levels of the organization who embrace a challenge and believe in their ability to make a difference.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supporting the Physician Services team in the execution of physician remuneration accountability, the Accountability Analyst supports the assessment, analysis and presentation of operational data from multiple stakeholders, as well as supporting strategic program development including Accountability Frameworks for contractual funding models, major program reviews as well as the monitoring and/or establishment of new fee codes.

Working collaboratively with operational program areas and other data/analytics supports, the Accountability Analyst is required to work with direct physician billing data as well as other health information to inform the following:

  • Remuneration and accountability analytics for more than 2700 physicians, under 9 different program funding modalities.
  • Analytics, recommendations, and data to support Treasury and Policy Board submissions, direct Ministerial queries, and business cases.
  • Research, trending and analytics to support Fee Committee on behalf of system stakeholders.
  • Program reviews, accountability framework development and monitoring.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining data requirements and collection strategies, making sure the process is accurate and respects privacy.
  • Assisting in the review of policies and programs by analyzing the data statistically.
  • Collecting of qualitative data on program performance and implementation of new accountability frameworks through actively participating in operational meetings and assisting in the day-to-day management of correspondence for accountability initiatives.
  • Managing a shared inbox for the purposes of communicating with front line physicians.
  • Communicating in a clear, concise, and empathetic manner, in writing and verbally, to support implementation and management of programs.
  • Aggregating and effectively presenting findings in easy-to-understand terms.
  • Communicating and working with subject matter experts and organizational leadership to ensure programs are data informed.
  • Working closely with health system partners – program managers and senior officials within the NSHA and the IWK to discuss analytics strategy, planning, priorities, research and monitoring and development of project initiatives that will further the agenda to build, sustain and advance a solid, integrated health analytics foundation.
