Position Summary Works under limited supervision to perform advanced professional accounting work, auditing and other professional accounting duties as assigned in accounting at General Sessions Courts, Civil and Criminal Divisions. Pay Grade: 53 Salary Commensurate with Education and Experience   Minimum Qualifications * Five (5) years of experience in the use of accounting principles, techniques, and theories; (preferably in a public agency); AND * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance, public or business administration, or closely related field; OR * An equivalent combination of related education, experience and/or training. * CPA may substitute for two (2) years of experience. * PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED   Duties and Responsibilities * Performs daily and monthly reconciliations. * Maintains accounting records involving technical accounting data and reconciles the general ledger and produces monthly financial reports to the County Trustee, County Finance, and Municipalities. * Ensures revenues are received and expenditures are processed in accordance with general accepted accounting principles. * Prepares periodic schedules reflecting comparison of actual expenditures to budgetary appropriations. * Reconciles and completes general ledger and bank accounts. * Conducts complex analytical accounting system projects and reporting utilizing databases and excel spreadsheets. * Performs audits for various departments as directed. * Assists in the supervision of accounting staff within Civil and Criminal sections personnel of lower classification * Reviews and analyzes fiscal reports and data to arrive at logical conclusions as directed. * Responsible for recommending improvements in the county accounting system. * Composes memorandums and policies/procedures application to accounting related business practices. * Performs other related duties as required or directed.   KSAs * Thorough knowledge of accounting theory and practices and auditing procedures. * Knowledge of the rules, regulation and contract requirements governing the agency’s financial record keeping operations and skills in applying them. * Ability to operate accounting and allied office machines. * Ability to supervise and coordinate support personnel. * Ability to deal tactfully with the public and coworkers. * Ability to prepare reports and to establish and maintain a system of records. * Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating decisions, situations and preparing information. * Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.   Disclaimer This position is subject to a background check for any convictions that have a substantial relationship to potential job duties.
