Description:
Xwchíyò:m (Cheam First Nation) is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, excellent analytical skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The accountant will be responsible for managing general accounting activities, providing financial support to other departments, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting is an asset.
- Familiarity with ISC funding and reporting is an asset.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills, knowledge of Xyntax is an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations community is highly valued.
- Ability to balance competing priorities, multitask, and to work under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5.
Responsibilities:
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and sub-ledgers on a monthly basis.
- Prepare and post month-end and year-end journal entries, including those for accruals, prepaids, capital assets, and other adjustments.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly in-house financial statements.
- Manage GST filings to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of budgets and financial forecasts.
- Provide support during annual audit engagements, including preparation of required documentation.
- Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to address and resolve program-related financial inquiries.
- Perform additional duties or responsibilities as assigned to support the finance team
- Other duties as required.
