QUALIFICATIONS:

A full CCAB qualification (preferably CIPFA) or an equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Proven experience in providing high-quality financial advice in a large and complex organisation
  • Strong understanding of financial systems and how to use them to drive process improvement
  • Ability to produce and present clear financial models, costing options, and strategic recommendations
  • Confident communicator with experience delivering presentations to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in leading medium-scale change initiatives and supervising colleagues’ work
  • A collaborative team player who shares knowledge proactively and supports collective success
  • Good working knowledge of financial planning frameworks, risk management, and budget monitoring processes
Responsibilities

WHAT’S INVOLVED WITH THIS ROLE:

We are seeking a qualified and motivated Accountant to join our dynamic Finance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-performing service, providing financial expertise and strategic insight across a diverse range of council services. You will be part of a supportive and flexible working environment where collaboration, innovation, and development are key.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide accurate, insightful financial information, analysis, and advice to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure financial support is delivered in line with the Council’s operating model and strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with budget managers and service leads to monitor financial performance, address concerns, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support and lead substantial workstreams within areas such as commercial development, service transformation, financial modelling, and cost analysis.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of other finance staff (including other Accountants) on specific projects.
  • Contribute to the Council’s commercial agenda by promoting financial awareness and identifying income-generating opportunities.
  • Work with partner organisations including schools, health bodies, and other external clients.
