Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for performing various day to day accounting functions of the company. The Accountant will use current accounting practices to support accurate and timely financial reporting and budgeting processes.

  • Essential Functions
  • Financial Reporting
  • Assist with the month-end process, such as journal entries, accruals and some aspects of financial report preparation (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cashflow).
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of the balance sheet accounts and address any issues.
  • Monitor Accounts Receivable and prepare monthly statements to the customer and rectify any issues with payment.
  • Monitor Accounts Payable and assist with any accounts payable tasks if required.
  • Assist all accounting staff with the year-end audit, preparing any reports or information the auditors require.
  • Consistently evaluate and suggest improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Budgeting
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly revisions for the company, with assistance from the Accounting Manager
  • Integrate all forecasted sales and cost of sales information into the budget
  • Assist with communication with all departments regarding their budgetary needs (expenses, capital, labour, etc.), analyze these requests for reasonableness using a zero-based budget approach, and update the budget if reasonable
  • Track all changes made to the budget for easy explanation to stakeholders
  • Continuously look for, and implement, improvements to the budget process to increase accuracy
  • Asset Management
  • Assist with the tracking of all capital assets and maintain our asset tracking system, with assistance from the departments
  • Communicate with departments regarding the whereabouts of the assets they are responsible for
  • With assistance from the Accounting Manager, obtain approval from the relevant departments during asset disposition, ensure the value of the asset is accurate, and record the disposal

  • Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in accounting, business, or commerce
  • 0 - 3 years of experience in accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with stakeholders to determine acceptable solutions.
  • Demonstrated exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Experience creating detailed reports
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity
