Department: Finance

Your Role at Petcurean: The Accountant will support the Finance department and perform various accounting and administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner. We are looking for a confident, self-starter who is comfortable dealing with all levels of the organization and who has an impeccable accuracy with numbers and high attention to detail.
Your Future Team: The Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and has a strong working relationship with the entire Petcurean team. This position will work out of our head office in Chilliwack, BC.

If you were the Accountant now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  • Leading key monthly closing activities relating to inventory control and product costing;
  • Analyzing unit cost variance;
  • Collaborating with the Accounting team to develop tools for transaction processing or efficiencies to improve workflows;
  • Facilitating data capture related to Excess & Obsolete Inventory;
  • Advising on inventory accuracy on the balance sheet and COGS on the income statement;
  • Developing and preparing inventory analysis reports and reconciliations;
  • Analyzing variances and collaborating with the Accounting and Operations team to correct them.
  • Facilitating the generation and review of the monthly financial reporting package, including transaction reports, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Facilitating the month-end process, including recurring journal entries;
  • Generating fiscal year-end financial reporting files as needed;
  • Conducting ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required;
  • Recommending and implementing new reports as needed.

General Administrative Duties
Maintain a filing system to track all financial transactions. Assists in creating SOPs and work instructions for accounting processes, including a review of systems to make recommendations for improvements. Complete accounting projects as assigned, and provide coverage and support for the finance department as needed.

Are you our next Accountant? Here are some of our must-haves:

  • Minimum of eight years’ experience in an accounting position.
  • Post-secondary education in finance or accounting preferred.
  • Experience with Sage 300 and/or ERP is considered an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with an emphasis on Excel.
