POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accountant supports the financial operations of Regent Park Community Health Centre (RPCHC) with a focus on general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and ensuring the accuracy of day-to-day accounting transactions. This is a mid-level role ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting and non-profit finance, who is ready to take responsibility for core financial processes and contribute to audit readiness and financial integrity. The role balances transactional accounting with opportunities to support financial reporting, compliance, and process improvement.
The Accountant is responsible for supporting programs at RPCHC, including accurate monitoring and analysis of the financial results, processing all payables and receivables, preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports, forecasting cash flow needs and working with programs to analyze variances and provide explanations in a timely manner for internal and external purposes. Additionally, this role will support the rest of the Finance team on a variety of tasks including reconciliations and reporting.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Working towards or possession of a CPA designation is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or public sector environment.
  • Solid understanding of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE or PSAS) and fund accounting principles.
  • Proficient with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics or similar) and MS Excel.
  • Experience with payroll or accounts payable processes is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with funder reporting requirements, government contracts, or restricted funding is an asset.

  • Knowledge of the Regent Park area and issues affecting families living within the Regent and Moss Park communities
