Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accountant is a pivotal member of the finance team responsible for financial reporting and statutory compliance for the firm. This role involves a variety of accounting and financial activities, facilitating the assessment of business performance and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
- Overview of Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the Accountant include:
- Assistance with monthly financial results, including departmental profit and loss statements and fee analysis.
- Analysis and reporting on cost centre, client, matter, and work type profitability, fee earner utilization, disbursement recovery, and time write-offs.
- Preparation of inter-entity invoices and monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Asset Register Maintenance and Monthly depreciation calculation.
- Preparation of annual financial reports for external auditing, including financial statements and reconciliations.
- Annual draft tax reconciliations and lodgement of all relevant monthly, quarterly, and annual tax payments and reconciliations.
- Preparation of partner income statements and annual distribution statements.
- Assistance with the preparation and collation of annual budget and forecasting budgets, including variance analysis and reporting.
- Monthly review of payroll and related on costs, including backup payroll processing.
- Annual insurance policy review and liaising with insurance brokers.
- Regular and ad hoc management committee and partner meeting report preparation.
- handling general Finance queries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Other ad hoc projects as directed by the Finance Manager or Chief Financial Officer.
- Skills and Attributes
- Tertiary Qualification in Accounting - CA/CPA Qualified or working towards.
- Minimum 3 years of experience, working within a professional services firm preferred or currently in an Accounting firm with an auditing background working with clients in the professional services industry or small businesses.
- Experience managing compliance requirements for tax and accounting in partnerships and trusts.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and interpersonal skills deployed across a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- First-class communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proven ability to manage conflicting demands, manage time, and meet deadlines.
- Broad range of accounting skills and the ability to be “hands-on”.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive, service-oriented approach to working.
