Reports To: Controller / CFO
Location: Columbia, TN
Position Summary
The Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the dealership by performing various accounting functions, processing payroll, and ensuring accuracy of financial reporting. This role works closely with the Controller and department managers (sales, rentals, parts, and service) to provide timely and reliable financial information. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in maintaining strong internal controls, preparing reconciliations, and analyzing data to support decision-making.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments for multiple dealership departments.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements and credit cards.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely financial reporting.
- Prepare sales commissions and payroll for bi-weekly payroll submission.
- Prepare and submit monthly Tennessee Sales tax.
Inventory, Sales, and Rentals Accounting
- Lead semi-annual physical inventories of parts & equipment and prepare all inventory adjustments.
- Prepare accounting entries for trade-ins, consignment sales, warranty claims, manufacturer incentives, and rebates.
- Verify and prepare accurate costing for equipment sales, rentals, and service jobs.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with state and federal tax requirements including sales tax, use tax, and payroll reporting.
- Assist with external audits and support tax preparation as needed.
Operational & Cross-Departmental Support
- Provide accounting support to sales, rentals, parts, and service managers to ensure accurate job costing and departmental reporting.
- Assist with credit checks, customer account reviews, and collection efforts when needed.
- Partner with operations to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred but not required.
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in dealership, automotive, or equipment industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting practices.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online.
- Proficiency in MS Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
