We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our team and help ensure accuracy, compliance, and accountability in our financial operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and nonprofit regulations. This role is essential in supporting the Food Bank’s mission by managing day-to-day accounting functions and providing timely, reliable financial information.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting – REQUIRED
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience – REQUIRED
  • Nonprofit accounting experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and audit processes
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel – REQUIRED
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the South Texas Food Bank
Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger, journal entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and ensure proper documentation of all transactions.
  • Support annual audits by preparing schedules, reports, and documentation.
  • Assist with grant and donor reporting by providing timely financial data.
  • Prepare and file required federal, state, and local financial documents.
  • Assist with payroll processing and related tax filings.
  • Monitor budgets and provide variance analysis to leadership.
  • Maintain internal controls, financial policies, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit best practices.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure proper allocation of expenses and program reporting.
