COMPANY INTRODUCTION

T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 37 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 14 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec. The Company’s continuous expansion is going to bring more new stores in the next couple of years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting with indirect tax exposure (e.g., GST/HST)
  • Working knowledge in US tax is highly regarded
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, vlookup); ERP and WMS experience is an asset
  • Willingness and ability to learn multi-state US indirect tax requirements (e.g., Washington, California)
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet recurring deadlines
  • Experience working in a fast-paced retail industry environment is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
  • Flexibility to work overtime around reporting or filing deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is an asset

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Financial Controller (US), the Accountant is responsible for preparing and filing indirect tax returns for T&T Supermarket’s US operations. Initially focusing on Washington State’s Combined Excise Tax, this role will expand to include other jurisdictions, such as California, as the company’s US footprint grows.
This position also supports period-end financial close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations, and acts as a liaison with external tax advisors (e.g., Deloitte, Avalara). Based in Richmond, BC, the role is part of the US accounting team and works closely with colleagues in both Canada and the United States to ensure compliance and accuracy.

3. OTHER DUTIES

  • Participate in system or process improvement initiatives related to tax and period-end close
  • Manage recycling charge programs, ensuring accurate filing and compliance with environmental fee requirements
  • Assist with documentation and internal training for tax procedures
  • Support audit preparation and requests
  • Complete other ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Financial Controller
