The OSC is recognized by the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario as a pre-approved program. Our program provides participants the opportunity to gain valuable, diverse experience in various Divisions of Canada’s largest securities market regulator while completing the CPA designation requirements.
This is a unique opportunity that offers extensive practical experience to gain the necessary depth and breadth in all enabling competency areas and specific technical competency areas (such as financial reporting, audit and assurance, and strategy and governance) as required by the CPA Competency Map.
Overview of the OSC’s CPA Training Office Program

1. Practical Experience Rotation Period (36 months) – Participants rotate through the OSC to complete the CPA practical experience requirements. A rotation includes experience with at least three of the following groups:

• Registration, Inspections & Examination Division;
• Internal Audit;
• Department of Corporate Finance; and
• Department of the Chief Accountant.

1. Multi-Group Assignment Period (24 months) - After completion of the Practical Experience Rotation Period, participants will be rotated to available opportunities in various other groups of the OSC to continue to grow and develop their experience. During this period, rotations could include the groups noted in the Practical Experience Rotation or other groups within the organization, such as one of the departments in our Enforcement Division.
   Upon completion of the Multi-Group Assignment Period, or earlier as needed, a participant will be placed into a permanent position.
   Is this opportunity right for you?

We will only be considering applicants that:

• Prior to September 2026, obtain completion of a university degree and any needed CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) modules, if your university program is accredited to deliver only part of the CPA PEP.
• Intend to write the Common Final Exam in September 2027 (or earlier.)
• Are interested in gaining experience in both accounting and regulatory/compliance work.
• Are ready to commit to a multi-year rotational program with full-time hours in Toronto, Ontario.
• Can work in a hybrid environment (both independently and on a team) and adapt to changing priorities.
• Can effectively manage multiple demands on time, communicate information (both written and verbally) in a clear and concise manner, and demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn.

What type of work will you do?

• Conduct reviews of registered firms and regulated entities to assess compliance with Ontario securities laws that support investor protection and confidence in the capital markets.
• Participate in reviewing and assessing the OSC’s internal controls.
• Complete continuous disclosure reviews for public companies that report in accordance with IFRS and U.S. GAAP.
• Assist in researching and advising on the application of new and/or complex accounting standards.
• Assist in developing and assessing the application of regulatory rules and policies related to accounting and assurance standards.
• Participate in the development and delivery of training in topical areas of accounting, assurance and other areas that impact financial reporting or securities regulation to other members of the OSC (in either an in-person or virtual format).
