Description Position Overview The Accounting and Tax Specialist is primarily responsible for the preparation of multiple sales and excise tax reports, tax research and tax planning. In addition, this position includes various general accounting responsibilities. The position will interact with multiple internal departments, customers, vendors and state tax departments to resolve accounting, excise, and sales tax matters. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Timely and accurate reporting and filing of monthly and quarterly sales and excise tax returns Prepare account reconciliations and journal entries to support accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close for assigned areas Assist with maintaining up-to-date and accurate state registrations for the appropriate state returns Research and follow up on fuel excise tax discrepancies Assist with resolving tax issues Assist with filing reporting on sales to government entities Collaborate with other accounting staff to support department goals and objectives Maintain files of current customer state registration copies Enter and maintain customer set-ups, taxes, and billing information after credit approval Other duties as assigned Requirements Required/Preferred Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or 2-4 years of related business experience High level of attention to detail and reconciliation skills Experience with analysis and reporting of financial transactions Experience with filing sales and/or excise tax a plus Experience with NetSuite, Avalara, and IGen a plus Ability to pull and utilize system reports to analyze data MS Excel proficiency – xlookup and pivot tables Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment High level of integrity and accountability Eligible for company benefits including: Health, dental, and vision coverage, effective the 1st of the month following the date of hire Company paid life insurance and long-term disability Employee paid voluntary benefits such as voluntary life, short-term disability, critical illness, accident, and Legal Participation in the company 401(k) plan with eligibility for the company match after 6 months of service Paid time off (PTO) Company paid holidays Working Environment and Physical Demands Work is performed in a standard office environment with frequent local travel.
