SUMMARY: The Accounting Assistant applies principles of accounting to prepare check requests, purchase orders, monthly cash needs requests, payroll reports and record transactions as directed by the Controller for the organization by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Compiles and analyzes financial information to record entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
Perform daily accounting processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger transactions
Performs general accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll Functions
With assistance of the Controller analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, revenue and expense statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.
Reviews contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to the Controller to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
Implements accounting and accounting control procedures as established by the Controller.
Implements the system for general accounting as established by the Controller.
Maintains and reconciles journals, accounts, and petty cash accounts for review by Controller.
Works with staff and administration to ensure that budget processes assist in meeting the mission and obligations of the agency.
Makes timely recommendations to administration and/or the board on revisions to budgets, procedures, and all aspects of financial planning.
Provides Individual and Systems Advocacy on issues that will promote the independence, integration, and full community participation of persons with disabilities.
Support the efforts of all people to learn and apply self-advocacy skills.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Four-year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with GAAP Preferred.
