Job Summary: The Accounting Assistant I maintains accurate financial records. Provides entry-level accounting and bookkeeping support. Resolves routine questions and problems.
Additional Department Summary: Provides entry-level support for financial transactions, recordkeeping, reconciliations, and other routine accounting tasks under the supervision of the College Research Coordinator and in coordination with the Accounting Assistant III.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with accuracy. Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with staff and faculty. Proficiency with spreadsheets, data entry, and basic financial tracking. Capacity to learn and apply University systems, policies, and procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality with financial and personnel records.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s degree or coursework in accounting, business administration, or related field. Experience in an office or accounting support role. Familiarity with University of Alabama systems (e.g., Concur, Banner, or similar). Experience reconciling accounts, processing invoices, or handling payroll support. Demonstrated ability to work in a research or higher education environment.
