The Accounting Assistant is vital to the successful operation of Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity. A successful candidate would be expected to uphold the Values of Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity:

The Accounting Assistant helps the Accountant maintain the integrity of financial information and supports the Accounting Department by performing clerical tasks, including processing & recording transactions, assisting with report preparation, responding to vendor inquiries, filing and other accounting related duties.

OUR IDEA CANDIDATE WOULD HAVE MOST OF THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in accounting or 4+ years of accounting experience in lieu of degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, a self-starter.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a team in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Analytical problem-solver with sound decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High level of commitment to the “people” side of the Habitat mission.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This is a regular, part-time role working an average of 16 – 24 hours per week depending on organizational needs. The current incumbent works mornings Monday through Friday each week, but there is openness to consider an alternative schedule as long as organizational needs can still be effectively met.

Responsibilities
  • Administer accounts payable (recording, paying, vendor maintenance).
  • Assist Accountant as requested with biweekly payroll process.
  • Administer and record bank deposits.
  • Assist with reconciling bank statements.
  • Assist with maintaining accounts receivable.
  • Assist with providing financial information for various management purposes and responding to vendor inquiries.
  • Provide support to Accountant with data collection for audits.
  • Assist with the input and management of organization’s accounting database.
  • Record ReStore sales and taxes.
  • Maintain vendor W9 forms and ensure that Certificate of Insurance (COI) is current and meets requirements.
