The Oregon School Employees Association (OSEA) is accepting resumes from individuals that are interested in working for a labor organization in the capacity of Accounting Assistant.
The Oregon School Employees Association is a membership directed labor organization and represents classified employees working in Oregon’s K-12 schools, community colleges, Head Starts, educational service districts, parks and recreation and library districts. In addition to the State Office in Salem, OSEA has eight field offices located throughout the state of Oregon.
Individuals submitting a resume for this position should include their educational background and work experience. Specifically, resumes should include applicant’s experience and knowledge in accounting principles and software, office methods, data analysis, databases, and Excel.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Director of Fiscal Operations, this position provides basic to intermediate accounting support and a variety of office functions.
The incumbent in this position assists the Director of Fiscal Operations in the daily operation of the financial business of OSEA. The incumbent is called upon to perform accounting tasks exercising independent judgment within standard OSEA fiscal policies and procedures using acquired knowledge and skills. Accuracy is very important to the
Association’s operations. This position performs standard office work in addition to accounting responsibilities including but not limited to answering phones, covering other office personnel shifts, filing, copying and other office duties as assigned. The successful candidate must be able to multi-task in the office environment when needed.
Primary duties include daily accounting procedures including reconciling and posting dues receipts, processing other incoming funds, processing weekly accounts payable checks, and maintaining records and files according to established procedures. Record time sheets for audit purposes, maintain employee leave records, process treasurer reports, prepares financial reports, prepare 1099s, reconcile bank and Visa statements, and provides assistance to staff and vendors. Assisting the secretaries when requested by answering the telephones and assisting with various office functions. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Basic Knowledge of:

  • General accounting principles, procedures, techniques, and terminology
  • Modern office methods, procedures, and practices
  • Appropriate English usage, spelling and business math
  • Rules, regulations, procedures, and functions of OSEA
  • Computer skills in accounting software, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing
  • Communication skills

Ability to:

  • Post data and make mathematical computations rapidly and accurately
  • Prepare accurate fiscal/financial reports
  • Communicate effectively with OSEA staff, members, vendors, and outside agencies, verbally and in writing using courtesy and tact
  • Operate as a team member and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and union members
  • Demonstrate use of English grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and word processing skills at a level necessary for efficient job performance
  • Work under pressure in a detailed, organized manner
  • Demonstrate logical thinking and reasoning
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Operate computers and other office equipment, including ten-key calculator
  • Handle routine matters with minimal supervision
  • Operate a multi-line phone system
  • Obtain accurate information from outside payroll clerks for updating member information
  • Manage a high level of record keeping.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA degree in general accounting or related field is required. Demonstrable workexperience may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

  • Meet the bonding requirements.
  • This position is located in Salem, Oregon. Selected candidates may need to relocate.
