Description Accounting Associate DEPARTMENT: Finance LOCATION: 345 Main Street, Catskill, NY REPORTS TO: Assistant Controller SUPERVISES: None GRADE: 12 RANGE: $50,000-$60,000 Commensurate with Education and Experience FLSA: Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY: The Accounting Associate is responsible for general ledger accounting, assisting with the end-of-month close process, performing account reconciliations, and supporting the Finance team in the preparation and review of SEC and regulatory reports. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with managing general ledger accounting, including reconciliation, analysis of financial accounts and preparation of journal entries and financial reports Prepare reports used for data analysis, budgeting, planning and asset/liability management for the financial institution Utilize reporting tools to assist in the development of reports Support internal control over financial reporting throughout the institution Collaborate with the Assistant Controller and Controller in testing and reviewing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, GAAP, SEC, Federal rules and regulations Provide support in development and documentation of policies and procedures Assist in preparation and/or proofing of periodic, quarterly and annual SEC and other regulatory reports Provide support to internal and external auditors as well as regulatory examiners Assist other Finance Department staff members as needed Requirements EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required. Bank accounting and/or audit experience is preferred. One to two years of experience preparing accounting entries and performing account reconciliations is preferred. Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is required. Strong analytical skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of internal controls and the ability to document processes. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; self-motivation is important. Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Previous experience querying databases is desirable.
