Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Coordinator assists the Chief Financial Officer in the management of the
finance operations throughout the District, supporting in the development, implementation and
control of the District’s budget and the preparation of the District’s Comprehensive Annual
Report (CAFR). This position manages the control of daily accounting transactions, including
payroll, and assists with the development and dissemination of fiscal procedures to promote
compliance with state and federal regulations, customer services, and fiscal efficiencies for the
District.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Ability to exercise some independent judgment while adhering to prescribed policies and
    procedures and perform the essential functions of the position with minimal supervision.
  2. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships and work in
    partnership with supervisors, other staff, students, and the general public.
  3. Ability to demonstrate professionalism in dress, speech and manner appropriate to the
    assignment and work setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Successful completion of criminal history records check, as required by law.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or business administration with emphasis in
    accounting.
  3. CPA or CPA candidate.
  4. Two years of professional accounting experience, preferably in governmental fund
    accounting.
  5. Knowledge of laws, rules, procedures and policies related to expenditure and accounting
    for school funds.
  6. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and
    acceptable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bilingual Spanish/English.
  2. Masters degree in Business.
  3. Successful supervisory experience.
  4. Experience with grant management.
  5. Strong lens on educational equity and serving the needs of diverse students.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the CFO in all areas of the School District financial services, as required.
  2. Develop long-range financial planning and budgeting, under the direction of the CFO.
    a. Provide data related to ongoing forecasts of requirements and resources,
    projection of current year expenditure and revenue, and analysis of financial
    trends.
    b. Prepare analyses of program costs required by the CFO.
    c. May be asked to attend Budget Committee and Board meetings as necessary.
  3. Assist in developing improvements in the financial management of the District including
    budget methods, format, and presentation.
  4. Assist the CFO in cost estimates for salaries and fringe benefits as required for
    budgeting, as well as labor negotiations and grant management.
  5. Assist the CFO in the projection of revenue and expenditures, preparation of financial
    information for debt financing, and management of short-term investment portfolio.
  6. Under the direction of the CFO, coordinate the annual audit process.
  7. Support the CFO with budget development and adjustments.
  8. Develop and coordinate student body accounting procedures and training.
  9. Implement, direct, and manage District financial computer systems.
  10. Provide administrative support to the CFO and key personnel upon request in matters
    pertaining to district policy, rule, and collective bargaining.
  11. Maintain cooperative relations with staff and the public.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of School District transactions.
