Description About the Role: This 12–16 week paid internship (May through August/September) is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Intern to gain hands-on experience within our accounting team. We are looking for a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field who is eager to apply classroom knowledge to real-world accounting operations. In this role, you will support day-to-day accounting activities, gain exposure to essential financial processes, learn directly from experienced professionals, and contribute to meaningful projects that make an impact within the organization. What You’ll Do: Assist with various projects to improve the department and the credit union Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts Help prepare financial reports and documentation Maintain organized, accurate financial records Assist with data entry, filing, and scanning documents Perform other tasks as assigned by the accounting team What You'll Bring: Currently pursuing a degree (2-3 years of college education) with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or Business Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Proficient with Microsoft Excel and basic accounting software Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality Eagerness to learn and contribute to a team environment 3.0 GPA or greater preferred What Would Make You Stand Out (Not Required): Experience with credit unions/banking Understanding of GAAP principles Prior internship or relevant class project experience What We Offer: Hands-on training and experience with real accounting workflows Mentorship from experienced professionals Opportunity to build skills in financial reporting and analysis Flexible hours based on school schedule Potential for future employment opportunities Who We Are: WMCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that proudly serves members at 11 locations across West Michigan.
