JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager will oversee the financial operations of the law firm, ensuring compliance with legal accounting standards and maintaining accurate financial records. This role involves managing day-to-day accounting activities, supervising accounting staff, preparing financial reports, overseeing trust account compliance, and supporting strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will have experience in a professional services environment, preferably within a law firm, and possess deep knowledge of legal billing, trust accounting (IOLTA), and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily operations of the accounting department, including AP/AR, general ledger, billing, collections, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage client trust (IOLTA) accounts to ensure compliance with state bar rules and trust accounting regulations.
  • Oversee monthly and annual closing processes and produce accurate financial and production reports in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the COO on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of client billing, adjustments, and collections.
  • Maintain internal controls and recommend improvements to accounting policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with external tax preparers, banking, and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor cash flow, prepare financial statements, and manage the firm’s financial reporting system.
  • Train and supervise accounting staff, including delegating tasks and conducting
  • performance evaluations.
  • Provide support in evaluating technology and financial software tools (e.g., Time and Billing software, QuickBooks, Elite, Aderant, Centerbase or similar legal software).
