DESCRIPTION

The Henrico Sports & Entertainment Authority (HSEA) seeks an experienced Accounting Manager to lead finance and accounting functions for our growing organization. This role ensures transparency, accountability, and timely financial insights for the Executive Director, Board members, and partners.
The Accounting Manager oversees bookkeeping, payroll, budget planning, and financial reporting in collaboration with contracted service providers and Henrico County Finance. The position manages multiple funding sources, diverse revenues, and a large operational budget. Work is performed independently under the supervision of the Executive Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of accounting, auditing, and budget practices, including experience with government or nonprofit entities.
  • Expertise in preparing, analyzing, and presenting financial data and reports.
  • Experience with operational and capital budget planning, fiscal management, and investment strategies.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with government procurement practices and contract monitoring.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective financial controls and policies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to present financial information clearly.
  • Collaborative, professional, and detail-oriented, with sound judgment and the ability to work effectively across teams and with external partners.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Masters or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, accounting, finance, public administration or three (3) years of related successful professional accounting experience, financial management or related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, procurement, budgeting, and contract administration.
  • Manage preparation of financial statements, audits, and annual reporting; ensure compliance with GAAP, GAAS, and applicable regulations.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and procedures to safeguard resources and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate and monitor the Authority’s budget, cash position, investments, and financial forecasting in partnership with Henrico County Finance.
  • Provide regular financial updates, analysis, and risk assessments to the Executive Director, Board, and committees.
  • Serve as liaison with County departments, contracted facility managers, and external auditors to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy as a member of the management team, offering fiscal and administrative guidance.
