If so, please continue reading to learn more about this Accounting Manager I with the Controller's Office of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NC DPS). This Accounting Manager I will serve as the Disaster Grants Accounting Manager and will support the Department Controller in all aspects of disaster grant processing, accounting, and reporting. Position will lead the Disaster Grants Accounting Section, which manages the Department’s high-volume disaster funds, disbursements to sub-grantees and contractors, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting. The incumbent is responsible for setting priorities, providing guidance, and overseeing daily operations to ensure departmental goals are achieved. Key duties include planning and directing grant accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial records and regulatory compliance, developing and enforcing internal controls, managing grant-related financial systems, offering policy interpretation across divisions, and conducting financial analyses as needed. Given the critical nature of disaster funding to departmental operations, this position is essential to maintaining fiscal integrity and operational effectiveness. The Controller's Office ensures that all department financial resources and funds are received, disbursed, recorded, and accounted for in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Department policy and procedures. The Controller's Office at the agency level has oversight responsibility of this department and is accountable to the office of the State Controller for the integrity of that data. The objective of the Disaster Grants section is to ensure fiscal accountability of the use of funds awarded to the agency from various sources. This includes but is not limited to compliance, interpreting, and applying federal regulations, cash management and reporting of expenditures. The agency receives federal grants, cooperative agreements, state grants, and private grants. The employee in this position is expected to have the ability to verify and interpret accounting documents and clearly communicate findings in both oral and written forms.
