Classification: Exempt Reports To: Controller Position Type:  Full Time Work Schedule: M-F 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Work Location: Headquarters, Kansas City Job Summary: The Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial data through timely and comprehensive bank reconciliations and the preparation of financial statements. The role oversees daily accounting activities, identifies and posts necessary financial transactions, and ensures that all financial reporting is delivered accurately to support the Controller and broader organizational decision‑making. This position plays a critical role in maintaining updated financial records, performing regular bank and account reconciliations, and resolving discrepancies promptly. The Accounting Manager leads the month‑end and year‑end close processes and assists in preparing financial statements in accordance with GAAP, delivering dependable financial information to internal and external stakeholders.  Essential Functions:   * Financial Recordkeeping: * Maintain and update financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries. * Perform and oversee timely reconciliations of bank statements and other financial accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness. * Identify and resolve reconciling items promptly to maintain clean and reliable financial records. * Financial Processes, Policies, and Statements: * Develop & maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal control documentation. * Lead month‑end and year‑end close cycles, ensuring deadlines are met and financial data is accurate. * Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen controls and modernize processes. * Prepare and assist with tax‑related documents and reporting obligations. * Support preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP. * Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and variances. * Financial Analysis & Reporting * Conduct financial analysis and prepare KPI reports to assist management in decision‑making. * Research variances, analyze discrepancies, and provide analytical solutions. * Prepare summary and ad‑hoc financial reports for management and external stakeholders. * ·       Compliance & Audit Support * Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies, procedures, and relevant regulations at the local, state, and federal levels. * Assist auditors by preparing schedules and providing required documentation during external audits. * Collaboration & Leadership * Collaborate cross‑functionally and provide financial expertise to teams throughout the organization. * Support and coordinate daily activities of the accounting team to ensure timely and accurate period closes. Required Education/Experience/Certifications: * B.S. or M.S. degree in Accounting * 7+ years of professional accounting, audit, or other related experience * Strong MS Excel skills and working knowledge of other Microsoft Office aaplications * Clear and correct communication skills (oral & written) and organizational skills Preferred Education/Experience/Certifications: * CPA or eligible to sit for * Experience in the conversion and/or implementation of accounting software * Transportation or manufacturing industry experience.
