We are currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Trading and Origination Accounting team!
We are seeking a highly motivated Accounting Specialist to join our dynamic team at Capital Power. As an Accounting Specialist – Trading Finance, you will play a vital role in supporting our growing energy trading business by ensuring accounting results/reporting and cash flow at the transactional level accurately represent the trading activity through a combination of accounting skills, business understanding, leveraging technology, and collaboration with multiple teams and customers. The scope of the role covers power, natural gas, and/or environmental trading activities including new business initiatives and ongoing continuous process improvements. EDUCATION

  • Degree/diploma in accounting or related field.
  • Progression toward a professional accounting designation or CPA designation is an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 -5 years of accounting experience with preference given to those with energy trading finance or risk management, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience with trade accounting applications such as Allegro or TriplePoint, and EPM applications such as Oracle or SAP is considered an asset.
  • The ideal candidate will be experienced in accounting/settlements, competent in developing Excel models and tools required to reconcile large amounts of data between disparate sources and understand the wholesale electricity markets and charges.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of applications, Excel in particular.
  • High attention to detail, analytical and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to work effectively with others and cultivate strong relationships across functional teams.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated project management skills.
