The Local/Regional Subject Matter Expert (SME) is part of the Service Delivery (SD) team, supporting the growth and operational excellence of the Global Business Services (GBS) model. SMEs combine hands-on technical expertise with compliance discipline, ensuring all work meets global standards while remaining compliant with local regulations. They are problem-solvers who provide local solutions aligned with central governance, enabling scalable and consistent service delivery across countries. Roles & Responsibilities Technical Support and Guidance Provide in-depth technical expertise for their assigned product. Act as the go-to expert on local regulations, ensuring operational compliance. Review and interpret local rule changes, advising GBS and relevant teams on required adjustments. Own regulatory updates and coordinate with Knowledge Management (KM) for internal and external communications. Quality Assurance and Compliance Review deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to both global and local standards. Train and coach centralised team members to gradually build internal capabilities. Conduct periodic quality reviews, spot-checks, and audits to maintain consistent service standards. Develop and maintain country-specific SOPs and compliance checklists aligned with global frameworks. Client-Facing and Onboarding Support Support client’s calls to clarify local compliance and technical matters. Support client onboarding under Service Delivery (SD) guidance during transition phases. Review SoW and Onboarding Master templates to ensure alignment with local requirements. Perform onboarding tasks as needed to set proper process baselines before handover to delivery teams. Collaboration and Process Improvement Work closely with GBS functions and other SMEs for cohesive delivery. Support vendor sourcing, selection, and coordination where local presence or language is needed. Perform tasks that require local presence, such as statutory filings, bank coordination, notarisation, or client documentation. Provide local solutions that align with central governance, ensuring compliance while addressing on-the-ground realities. Identify and propose process standardization or automation opportunities to enhance scalability and control. Actively contribute to SME networks, knowledge-sharing sessions, and continuous improvement efforts. Behavioural Expectations & Mindset Be proactive: anticipate issues and act before escalation. Requirements Chartered Accountant (CA) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting and tax and regulatory compliance Strong technical knowledge of and expertise in accounting standards, regulatory compliance and direct and indirect tax compliance and foreign exchange regulations Proven experience in a client-facing role, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent client management and stakeholder engagement capabilities. Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Ability to analyze and interpret complex regulations and compliance requirements. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide strategic solutions. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Fluency in English is required.
