Description
The Clinical Education department is looking for a new ACLS, CPR Instructor to support training UPMC’s staff which includes physician’s, residents, nurses, and other staff support across all 7 hospitals. Will support nursing education, specialty courses, and simulations. Collaboration is essential in this role. This position will travel within the Central PA region up to 4 times a month, depending on the needs of the 7 major hospitals in Central. Reliable transportation is a must. Schedule: Monday – Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with some flexibility. No major holidays. Purpose: To coordinate and conduct credentialed courses and exams, to include American Heart Association, Basic Cardiac Life Support/Advance Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advance Life Support, AED Training, and First Aid courses. Administrate all activities of an American Heart Association Training Site, as well as all Susquehanna Health programs to include coordinating and scheduling volunteer instructor efforts and record keeping. Responsibilities: Incorporate leading/evidence-based practice in quality/safety into everyday work. Commit to high quality, safe work; encourage others to have similar standards. Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors or adverse events. Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety. Report serious events/incidents per policy. Process course records and fees for all courses, internal and external, that are conducted. Plan, coordinate, instruct, and follow up on courses as prescribed by individual agencies, according to department needs, to include, but not be limited to, BCLS, AED, ACLS, PALS, and First Aid courses. Provide inventory control of course-related textbooks and support materials. Actively practice behaviors associated with SH Service Excellence expectations. Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures. Maintain records for all instructors within the CTC structure. Maintain mannequins and educational equipment in working order and in accordance with sanitation guidelines. Coordinate and manage the delivery of Advance Cardiac Life Support, BCLS, Pediatric Advance Life Support, AED, First Aid courses and other AHA programs as directed. Assume responsibility for personal development and education. Provide Quality Assessment and continuing education for all instructors within the CTC structure. Demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, and knowledge of growth and development as it relates to the age of patients being treated. Promote educational programs to healthcare professionals and public, as well as Industrial First Aid. Provide input to the Director, Prehospital Services/Emergency Preparedness for the management of the programs. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an AMA/CAAHEP-accredited Paramedic Training Program preferred or Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing and licensed as an RN in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or a bachelor's degree in the Health or Science field. 1 year of experience Preferred. One year as a BCLS Instructor preferred. One year as an ACLS Instructor preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: BCLS Certification at the healthcare provider level. Certification as a BCLS Instructor or obtain within six months of hire. Certification as a BCLS Instructor Trainer and Regional Faculty or obtain within minimum time frames established by American Heart Associations. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician or obtain within six months of date of hire. Successful Completion of an ACLS Provider Course with in the past two years or complete within six months of hire date. Certification as an ACLS Instructor or obtain within one year of date of hire. Certification as a Pediatric Advance Life Support Instructor or obtain within one hear of hire date. Certification as an AHA HeartSaver First Aid Instructor or obtain within one year of date of hire. If a Paramedic: a. Certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as an EMT-Paramedic. b. Or Certified as an NREMT-P by the National Registry. OR IF an Registered Nurse, Licensed by the Commonwealth as a Registered Nurse. Clearances must be dated within 90 days Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSI) Driver's License National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (NREMT-P) OR Paramedic OR Registered Nurse (RN) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Act 34 with renewal *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
